About Us

St Helen’s Primary Academy is situated in Monk Bretton, 2 miles from Barnsley town centre. It was opened in 1963 as separate Junior and Infant schools and amalgamated in 1987. On the 1st December 2012 we converted to an academy, joining the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) group of academies. We serve a community with a mixture of local authority houses and privately owned property. We currently have 26% of our children eligible for free school meals.
