"Gateway is a thriving further education college providing excellent educational opportunities for the people of Leicester and Leicestershire."
It's achievements as a sixth form college, and formerly as a grammar school, have contributed to its present popularity, and form the basis of its assured success in the new millennium.
The college welcomes applications from those who wish to continue their education at any time after the age of 16. Programmes of study may be followed full-time or part time, day or evening.
Currently situated in the centre of Leicester, Gateway College is easily reached by bus and train from all parts of the city and county and beyond. Adjacent to De Montford University, the Bede Island Development and Castle Park Heritage Area, the College provides an attractive and exciting environment for all those who study and work there.
In September 2009 Gateway College will re-locate to an attractive Greenfield site at Hamilton, close to Tesco's. This represents an exciting and important forward stride for the college and for educational opportunities offered to the people of Leicester and Leicestershire. Keep pace with developments through our regular newsletter Gateway News and this website.
The College aims to have over 1,500 students on roll each year. About 80% of these will be following full-time courses. Most students are currently preparing for the GCE AS and Advanced Level or Advanced and Intermediate vocational programmes in their chosen subjects.
At Gateway College we realise how vital education is for our students. For every available job there are now at least 50 other people applying for it.
We need to prepare our students to be better than the competition.
Research shows that a better College education has long term benefits such as:
Preparing Gateway Students
We need to produce people who know how to act when they’re faced with situations for which they were not specifically prepared.
At Gateway we realise that the fundamental competitive skill we need to teach is the skill of being able to learn. Not only will our students learn skills associated with the subjects they choose to study but they will learn competitive skills such as learning to give the right response in situations outside the scope of what is taught in schools to carry them forward into the world of work and enable them to succeed.
Not only do we strive to implement a successful and challenging educational programme but also to instil an appetite to learn and continue learning throughout adult life. If our students leave us with a hunger to learn then we have succeeded.
Our staff believe that every student can learn, regardless of other factors such as their background, their parent’s background, demographics or ethnicity.
All of our students have the ability to enjoy, learn and succeed.
