Beacon Academy was formerly Shelthorpe Community School and converted to an academy in December 2012. The original buildings date back to 1933 with various extensions over the years.
There are extensive outdoor learning areas, and the Forest School's initiative runs in both in the nursery and foundation classes. The grounds include two trim trails, extensive fields, a ballcourt and a foundation play area. There is an enclosed open-air quad area which is used for group activities and gardening.
Another feature of our academy is the swimming pool. All of the children in the academy are given the opportunity to learn to swim during the school year from Foundation Stage to Year 6. These sessions develop from water confidence to stamina and badge swimming.
We hope that this website gives you a taste of the work that we do at Beacon Academy, we are creative and forward thinking. We strive to develop the 'whole child' by developing their skills and talents - whatever they might be!
We would really encourage all prospective parents to come to our academy to have a look around our academy.
